50 Year High School Reunion

Eleanor and I drove down to LA to attend my 50th high school reunion. I went to Canoga Park High School.

Eleanor and I at the Friday night party,

On the Saturday tour of the high school. I'm in center front in purple T shirt. The Assembly Hall in the background was one of the two buildings remaining since I went to school there. Most of the other buildings fell down in the 1972 Sylmar earthquake.

My picture from yearbook.

We went on a road ride around the area on Saturday. This is a foto of me standing in front of the elementary school I attended.

I used to play basketball here a lot. There was a rim mounted above the old firehouse door.

I once carved my initials on this tree. Tree is still standing but initials were long gone. See Mom they were not permanent afterall.

My parents old home (4712 Louse Ave, Encino CA).

Eleanor had the best costume at the sock hop on Saturday night.

Me and my high school buddy (Sterling P Holloway III) got re-accquainted. He lives in Aurburn only about 70 miles from Truckee where I now live.

Scads of folks wanted their picture taken with Eleaanor,

High Water on the Truckee

Rode from Tahoe City to Truckee today, part of the way on the bikepath. It turns out the river was ripping, at about as high a level as I remember seeing in recent years. Parts of the bikepath were flooded.

New Wood Floor

Had a new Australian Cypress wood floor put in in the upstairs living room/dining room/kitchen.

This is what it looks like, or at least what 80% of it looks like. Ran out of wood before we could finish so there is a 4 foot bare spot not shown in the photograph on the eastern edge of the floor. It will be another 6 weeks before the complete job will be done.

Dualing Trailers

Turns out both Robert and I each bought new trailers on the same day (June 14th). Here is a shot of the proud new owners.

Downieville Road Trip

Rode the Harley over to Downieville for lunch today. (Map) Started out sunny and warm, ended up almost getting caught in a thunder storm.

Snapped the pictures of the town while I was there,

540 E Maude Sunnyvale CA

Well on the way back from the Dr's office last Friday I stopped by my old appartment in Sunnyvale where I lived for a time way back in 1961 would you believe. I was surprised to see it still standing much as I remembered it. I had expected that it would have been leveled long ago and replaced by new condominiums. Well the shrubery was larger of course but not much else had changed.

The good ole Chateau Sierra. I doubt that anybody gives a rat's ass about these photo's except me. My roommate Gerry Doyle was killed in a small plane crash at the time we were living here. But that is another story.

My appartment was in the center of the picture at the end of the wall.

Another view.

The Unveiling

Drove down to Stanford on Tuesday to see Dr Lorenz and have the bandages and stitches removed from my face.

This is how I looked on May 31st. You can see how my upper lip is pulled up towards my left nostril

This is the photo from yesterday taken in the Dr's office right after the bandages and stitches were removed. I look a little worse for wear. You can see the scab outlining the periphery of the skin graft which is almost dime size. Note that my lip is no longer pulled up towards my nose. Dr thought the result will look good after he swelling subsides and the skin has time to blend in. That's good news.

Plastic Reconstructive Surgery

I had some plastic surgery done at Stanford Hospital on Thursday to try and fix my upper lip which I had pretty badly dinged up last November during a fall I had riding down Haleakala on Maui. (The Crash) Well at the moment I'm feeling pretty beat up with my whole face and especially my upper lip swollen. While he was at it Dr Peter Lorenz cut away some of the scar tissue on my left forehead which resulted from the same crash. The lip surgery required a skin graft. They took the skin from my cheek just in front of my ear for the graft. Just to even things out they also took a pinch away from the other side of my face. So maybe I'll be even better looking with the resulting "facelift". The stiches are scheduled to come out next Tuesday. The Dr informed me that "after the surgery" that the success rate in skin grafts like mine is about 70 or 80%.

This is how I looked as of 2:30PM this afternoon.

Sierraville Ride

Eleanor and I took a Memorial Day 50 mile jaunt around Sierra Valley from Sierraville to Loyalton to Beckwourth to Satley and back down HY 89 to Sierraville.

It was a beautiful day about 65 degrees with a light wind blowing. The ride is very flat with only a few hundred feet of climbing.
