A temporary setback

Ryan flew off to Portland to meet Jesse without me since I somehow managed to tweak my back on Sunday. My plan is to recooperate and meet them in Clarkson, WA about a week into the trip. We shall see.

Bike Route

This is the complete route plan layed out on the kitchen floor from Astoria, OR to Cambridge, MA. The total length of our ride is 4330 miles. Our path will follow the Adventure Cycling Lewis and Clark trail from Astoria, OR (or Portland) to Jefferson, SD where we hook up with RAGBRAI to ride across Iowa and then follow the Adventure Cycling Northern Tier route to Rochester, NY. There we follow the NY state Route 5 bicycle route to the border of MA. Finally we navigate backroads across MA to Cambridge. If all goes well the total trip length will be approximately 64 days. I have been busy packing for 2 weeks. Ryan on the other hand is taking a more relaxed approach and probably won't pack until the night before we plan to leave.

Sierra Century

Rode the Sierra century on Saturday with Robert, Ryan and Wallace. A lot of other folks from Truckee were also on the ride including Bonnie and Leeds (Sierra Century 2005). Camped out Friday night in the Amador County Fairgrounds. Rode the metric century. It was challenging enough some 67 miles with 4600 feet of climbing.

Test of my new camera phone

This is my first mobile blog. If it works then this is one way I will be able to update the blog while we are on our cross country bike trip. The picture was taken of my Tusunami touring bike made by Seven Cycles, parked outside my home in truckee. My phone is a Motorola V710.

Coast to Coast Bike Ride

I've been dreaming of riding across the country for many years. Well it looks now that this is the year. Much to my surprise Ryan who is going to MIT asked a few months ago if I would be interested in doing that this summer. He had been talking about it with his friend Jesse, another MIT student. Well I am thrilled. Our scheduled departure is around june 15th. Much to do before that to get ready for the trip. Bonnie has been kind enough to accept caring for Sam. Thanks Bonnie you're super, just like Donna said.

Ryan, Jesse and I are still discussing the route. Ryan and Jesse want to start the trip by taking the Transamerica trail while I favor the Lewis and Clark trail.

This is my version of the route.

This is Ryan and Jesse's plan Ryan's Route.
