Hi Andy, My maiden name is Bivetto. I've been doing some searches for my ancestors and came upon your name. The spelling is pretty close and I wondered if your family came from Baucina, Sicily,or at least near Palermo? Just curious.
Hi Rosemary I know my family did come from Sicily. Reportedly from the twin towns of Santa Margherita di Velice or Monte Vago. I always thought they were near Palemo but I just called my sister and she says they are kinda more in the center of Sicily. Where are you from? What does Bivetto mean in Italian? Andy
Hi Andy, That's interesting! I wish I knew what it meant. I've been studying the language for about two years and I can't find anything except the word Bevere (to drink) and Bivio (a crossroads). Do you know what Bavetta means? Baucina is near Palermo. My grandfather was an orphan who emigrated when he was 18 yrs old. I just returned from a trip to Baucina and they have never heard a name even remotely similar to Bivetto. So I am completely stumped! I was born in New York but lived in Arizona for over 30 years. Now my husband and I are retired and living in Italy on a 2 year "sojourn" currently in Marina di Ragusa. Santa margherita di Velice & Monte Vago are actually not that far from Palermo, but inland.
Nice chatting with you! I have a cousin name Andy Bivetto. I will have to send him your blog. He lives in Los Gatos, California.
I was just typing in my grandmother's maiden name for fun this pm and came across your website. It's awesome and your son's was great too! I loved the stand up dorm hot tub. We have a lot in common, the last name, El Segundo, California and me wanting to learn to ski!
Do you know any Kleiman's from El Segundo by chance (my family)? Anyway..... My dad's mom is from Palermo and her name was Grace Bavetta. I live near San Luis Obispo. So this year I am going to learn how to ski. I've seen snow a few times in my life but haven't ever had the opp to try.
I was reading your blog. I think that we could be related. My mothers maiden name is Bavetta. Her father moved from Sicily when he 19 or 20. I know that I still have family in Sicily & Parlemro.
My grandfather's name was Dominick and he had several siblings. I know for a fact that one of his sisters name was Dominica.
My name is Andrew but I usually go by Andy. I have two sons Robert and Ryan (Bavetta.com) (CrazyBuilders.com) and three grandchildren Scott, Lindsey and Jill. I spent most of my life in the Los Angeles area. I moved to Northern California (Truckee) after I retired in 1997 from Hughes Aircraft Co in El Segundo, CA.
I enjoy outdoor activities the most. Lately my passions have been skiing in the winter and biking (road and mountain) during the summer. I also enjoy WW kayaking but have not boated much lately. I prefer the mountains and the beach to the flatlands. I like to be around people but I'm also OK hanging out alone. These days I work in the winter as a ski instructor at Northstar at Tahoe in Truckee CA. I love dogs and I am not too fond of cats. I have a HD DirecTV/TIVO setup and I use it mainly to watch news/political shows including The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and the Colbert Report with Stephan Colbert, Sacramento Kings basketball, USC football, World Cup FIS skiing and the cycling tour. I like to travel but prefer to combine it with some sort of outdoor activity like biking.

Hi Leah
I believe your Grandmother Grace is my Dad's (Lucien Bavetta's) half sister. Small world! Shoot me an email at bavetta@pacbell.net.
